Kolkata, Jun 8 (IBNS): At least three persons, including a minor boy, were injured after a self-loaded rifle (SLR) of a Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable misfired at Dumdum metro station in north Kolkata on Friday afternoon, reports said.

According to an eyewitnesses, SLR of a RPF constable, who was on duty near Dumdum metro station's ticket counter, accidentally dropped from his hand during duty change following which the loaded rifle misfired a bullet.

"A woman and her nearly 9-year-old son, who were waiting in the queue at ticket counter, were injured by the misfired bullet. One male staffer of Kolkata Metro Railway was also hurt in the incident," an eyewitness told IBNS.

A metro official, however, claimed that the injured persons were not directly shot by bullets.

"After being misfired, bullets first hit the floor near the ticket counter and then injured three persons in a reflex action," a metro official said.

Till the last update came in, the injured were taken to R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital.

"A high level probe has been initiated into the incident while footage of the CCTV cameras are being examined," a senior official of Kolkata Metro Railway told IBNS.

A source in the R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital confirmed that injured persons are out of danger and will be discharged shortly.
