Bangalore, Nov 1 (IBNS) Biocon Limited Chairman and managing director Kiran Mazumdar Shaw on Sunday voiced her concerns over growing intolerance in the Indian society.

"As a citizen, I want to say that I am a very proud and patriotic Indian and I want best for the country. And I believe, that India is a democracy that has really been proud of its diversity and when you talk about democracy, democracy is a platform for diverse views, diverse ideas, diverse expressions that's what we have been proud of," Shaw told India Today Television.

All these centuries, in fact, if not decades, I want to say that today across the country and its not isolated to one state, one party-ruled state or whatever. It is in all parts of the country. Across party-lines we are seeing divisiveness. Weather it is political divisiveness or coming from fringe elements who are very divisive, we need to make sure that we really focus on unifying this country. Because, it is extremely important to me for people not to be divided," she said.

"Government both at the Centre and at the state level must condemn this act and nip it in the bud," she said.

Speaking on the issue, she tweeted: "Social. Media tells me how divided we are as a society. I don't need to view TV talk. shows to be influenced."
