Kerala witnesses shutdown over death of youth Congress workers

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 18 (IBNS): The Congress on Monday called a 12-hour shutdown in Kerala over the killing of its two youth workers in Kasargode district a day ago, media reports said.

Kripesh (21) and Sharath Lal (24) were hacked to death on Sunday.

The Congress, which is eyeing on an alliance with the Left at the national level to dethrone BJP from Centre, has alleged its leaders were killed by a group of ruling CPI-M workers.

Kripesh and Lal were returning to their homes in Periya village when they were killed.

While Kripesh died immediately, Lal died at a hospital.

"CPI(M) activists are behind this dastardly attack. Going by accounts of witnesses it is well-planned and executed political murders. It is sad the party still feels it can silence its political opponents by annihilating them," Kerala Congress chief Mullapally Ramachandran has been quoted by Hindustan Times.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi, whose party is an arch-rival of the CPI-M in Kerala, tweeted, "The brutal murder of two members of our Youth Congress family in Kasargod, Kerala is shocking. The Congress Party stands in solidarity with the families of these two young men & I send them my deepest condolences. We will not rest till the murderers are brought to justice."
