Kerala rain fury: 2 dead, 10 feared trapped as massive Wayanad landslide triggers rescue race
Thiruvananthapuram/IBNS: At least two people were killed after heavy rainfall triggered a major landslide in Kerala's Wayanad district on Tuesday, according to media reports.
The landslide occurred near Meenakshi Bridge at Kalladi, close to an under-construction road project connecting Malappuram and Wayanad districts.

Rescue operation underway
A large-scale rescue operation was launched immediately after the incident.
Authorities fear that around 10 people may still be trapped under the debris. Several construction workers were reportedly present at the site when the landslide struck.
Six injured people were rescued and rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Personnel from the Fire and Rescue Services reached the spot and were joined by teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), which is leading the search and rescue efforts.

Kerala CM orders immediate action
Following the incident, Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan directed Agriculture Minister T. Siddique to coordinate the rescue operations.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister said: "In the wake of the landslide near Meenakshi Bridge at Kalladi in #Wayanad, the government reviewed the situation. An emergency meeting was held with Agriculture Minister T. Siddique, who is from the district. Directions have been issued to coordinate rescue operations without delay."
He added: "Revenue Minister A.P. Anil Kumar and Agriculture Minister T. Siddique have been directed to proceed to Wayanad immediately. I also spoke with the District Collector over the phone."
