Kerala: CBI to probe solar sex scandal case

| @indiablooms | Jan 25, 2021, at 01:44 am

Thiruvananthapuram/UNI: The Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) will probe the solar sex scandal case against former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and others filed by solar scam accused Saritha Nair.

The State Government took a decision in this regard following Saritha Nair wrote a letter to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on January 20 seeking CBI probe into the 2013 case.

Apart from Oommen Chandy, other Congress leaders, AICC general secretary KC Venugopal, former state ministers Adoor Prakash and AP Anil Kumar, Ernakulam MP, Hibi Eden and BJP national vice-president AP Abdullakutty.

The state will send its recommendation in this regard to the Centre soon, sources said on Sunday.

However, the decision on a CBI probe came just a few months ahead of the Assembly elections in the State.

Reacting to the issue, Oommen Chandy, who is also an AICC general secretary, said he will not approach court against the CBI probe recommended by the state government.

He said the Left Government which could not do anything in the past five years is trying to misguide people citing the upcoming Assembly elections.

"I am not planning to approach the court as I had not committed any such crime. Earlier, the High Court severely criticised the case. Future course action will be decided after discussing with others in the party," he added.

Responding to the issue, Opposition leader in Kerala Assembly Ramesh Chennithala said the decision to handover the case to the CBI is an election stunt. The CPI(M) is just using the solar case for political gains, he alleged.

Meanwhile, solar case accused Saritha Nair said she demanded the CBI probe due to the limitations of investigation agencies in the State.

She hoped that the case will be probed by the CBI properly against the Congress and the BJP leaders.
