Kejriwal transfers nine bureaucrats

New Delhi, May 26 (IBNS) The Arvind Kejriwal Government in Delhi has transferred nine bureaucrats, a day after the Delhi High Court described as 'suspect' a notification issued by the centre marking out a limited area of operation for the Chief Minister.

Kejriwal, who has been in combat with the central govewrnment  over his powers said the  verdict is  a "huge embarrassment" for the centre.

Kejriwal's recent standoff with Delhi's Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung over primacy prompted the centre to demarcate the areas of power for the two top men though the act is being seen heavily in favour of Jung, who had announced that the appointment of bureaucrats was his sole prerogative.

The Lieutenant Governor said last week that any postings of bureaucrats directed by the Chief Minister are invalid.

Kejriwal alleged that the BJP-led centre was trying to run the Delhi administration through the Lieutenant Governor bypassing an elected Government.

At a public meeting called in a park in the heart of Delhi on Monday, Kejriwal vowed that he would "limit the powers of the Centre in this term."
