Kashmiri Muslims perform last rites of Sikh in Ganderbal
Srinagar/UNI: In a heartwarming example of humanity, Muslims in a village of Ganderbal district performed the last rites of a Punjabi Sikh amid nationwide lockdown.
Official sources said that body of a carpenter, identified as Ranveer Singh, a resident of Punjab, was found inside his rented room in village Wakura in Ganderbal last week. “Singh, who was working as a carpenter from last about a decade in village Wakura and adjoining areas in Ganderbal, was rushed to a hospital by other skilled workers, including his cousins,” they said.
They said Singh was declared brought dead. “After completing all the legal and medical formalities, the body of the deceased was handed over to his relatives and villagers,” they said.
However, they said due to the lockdown in view of COVID-19 pandemic, the body could not be sent to his native place in Punjab. After seeking permission of the family of the deceased, the local Muslims organised the last rites of the deceased and mourned his death as one of their own.
“We found the body of the Singh in his rented room. We took him to hospital where he was declared brought dead. We could not sent his body to his native place, so we decided to perform his last rites,” a local resident said.
