Udhampur: Union Minister of State for Science and Technology and Personnel, Public Grievances Jitendra Singh has said Kashmir will soon be connected with the remaining part of the country by railway link.

The Minister said the link may be completed by early 2024.

"Kashmir will be connected via train to the rest of the country last this year or early next year. Udhampur plays an important role in this," Jitendra Singh told ANI.

"Overall ₹ 295 crore will be spent on the redevelopment of three stations in J-K, with a maximum amount of ₹ 259 to be spent on Jammu Station, ₹ 20 Crore on Udhampur and ₹ 15.94 crore on the Budgam station of Jammu and Kashmir," he said.

PM Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 508 railway stations across the length and breadth of the country on Sunday at 11 AM via video conferencing.

The Prime Minister has often laid stress on the provision of state-of-the-art public transport.

Noting that railways are the preferred mode of transport for people across the country, he has emphasised the importance of providing world-class amenities at railway stations.

Guided by this vision, the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme was launched to redevelop 1309 stations across the country, read a statement issued by the government.
