Srinagar/IBNS: One terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Awantipora on Thursday morning, media reports said.

The encounter with two more terrorists is underway.

The gunfight began at the Nader and Tral areas of Awantipora in South Kashmir.

At least three terrorists belonging to the Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit were killed during a gunfight with security forces in the Zinpather Keller area of Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian area on Tuesday.

The Indian Army had said, "On 13 May 2025, based on specific intelligence of a #RashtriyasRifles Unit, about presence of terrorists in general area Shoekal Keller, #Shopian, #IndianArmy launched a search and destroy Operation. During the operation, terrorists opened heavy fire and fierce firefight ensued, which resulted in elimination of three hardcore terrorists."

Several encounters between security forces and terrorists have taken place since the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack where 26 tourists were killed.

The Indian Army Forces launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 to decimate the terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and beyond to avenge the Pahalgam attack.
