Kashmir Terrorism: Militant killed in encounter with security forces in Sopore

Srinagar, Jul 17 (UNI) A militant was killed in an encounter with security forces at Sopore in north Kashmir district of Baramulla on Wednesday.

Mobile internet service has been suspended as a precautionary measure to prevent rumours in the area.

Official sources said following specific information about presence of militants, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the wee hours on Wednesday at village Brad, Watlab, Sopore.

Security forces sealed all exit points and launched house-to-house searches, they said, adding when the security forces were moving towards a particular area, the militants opened fire.

Security forces also retaliated ensuing in an encounter, they said, adding that one militant was killed in the exchange of fire.

They said the operation was still going on when the reports last came in.
