Kashmir: Militant killed in ongoing encounter in Pulwama

Srinagar, Mar 9 (IBNS): A fierce gunfight broke out between security forces and militants in Padgampora, Awantipora of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday.

Following information about the presence of the militants as soon as the forces cordoned off Padgampora village, they were fired at, Some reports suggest three to four militants were hiding in the area and one local militant were killed so far.

“One local Hizbul militant were killed so far, we called his family to motivate him for surrender but he deny the requests of their parents,” police officer told IBNS.

Reports said, public address systems were being used to ask the militants to surrender.

This is the second major encounter in the area in last four days.

Last week, top Hizbul Mujahideen militant Aqib Maulvi was killed along with a Pakistan based Jaish-e-Mohammed militant Osama in Tral area of Pulwama district.

Meanwhile, the train services on Banihal-Srinagar track have been suspended as one of the railway stations is near the Pulwama encounter
site, according to a report.
