Kashmir: Gun-battle between forces and terrorists in final stage, two civilians killed in crossfire

Srinagar, Jul 1 (IBNS): Two civilians were killed in crossfire on Saturday morning as security forces reached the final stage of an encounter with Lashker-e-Taiba terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag, media reports said.

Few other people were also reportedly injured.

The encounter is still going on with top LeT terrorist Basheer Lashkari and his accomplice being engaged in the gun battle with forces from inside a house.

A woman, identified as Tahira, 44 and another civilian succumbed to their injuries after being caught in the crossfire, NDTV said.

According to reports, the operation was launched on the basis of intelligence inputs that  at least three terrorists, including Lashkari, were hiding in the house.

According to NDTV, there were 17 inmates inside the house, who were being used as human shields by the terrorists.

However, most of them have been evacuated by the forces.
