New Delhi/IBNS: The much-awaited Kartarpur Corridor will be inaugurated for Sikh pilgrims on Friday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shall inaugurate the Integrated Check Post of the Kartarpur Corridor at Dera Baba Nanak, Gurdaspur in Punjab.

The Prime Minister, shall, prior to this, pay obeisance at Ber Sahib Gurudwara at Sultanpur Lodhi.

Later, Prime Minister shall participate in public programmeat Dera Baba Nanak, read a governement statement.

The inauguration of the ICP check post would facilitate, Indian Piligrims to visit to Gurudwara Kartapur Sahib in Pakistan.

India has signed the Agreement with Pakistan on the 24th of October 2019 on the modalities for operationalisation of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor at Zero Point, International Boundary, Dera Baba Nanak.

It may be recalled, the Union Cabinet passed a resolution on Nov 22, 2018 to celebrate the historic occasion of 550th Birth Anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Devji in a grand and befitting manner, throughout the country and across the globe.

The Union Cabinet also approved the building and development of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor from Dera Baba Nanak to the International Boundary, to facilitate pilgrims from India to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, round the year, in a smooth and easy manner.

Hours before the inauguration of the much-awaited Kartarpur Corridor, Pakistan reportedly informed the government of India on Friday that it will charge USD 20 as fee from all pilgrims on Saturday itself.

According to sources, there is no clearance from Pakistani side on the first batch of pilgrims as of yet, reported UNI.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Nov 1 had tweeted to announce that he would waive off two key requirements for Sikhs "coming for pilgrimage to Kartarpur from India" and also said that no fee would be charged on the day of inauguration and on Guru Nanak Devji's 550th birthday.

The names in the first batch submitted to Pakistan include the likes of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Union Ministers Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Hardeep Singh Puri.

Pakistan Army had earlier - in sharp contrast to Imran Khan's announcement - said that passport would be a requisite document for the pilgrims.
