Bengaluru/UNI: Police have arrested six people on charges of alleged attempt to murder leaders who were supporting the Central government's Citizens (Amendment) Act (CAA) on December 22 in the city.

Disclosing this at a press conference on Friday, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao said that the arrested people have been identified as Irfan, Syed Akbar, Akbar Basha, Sana alias Sanaulla Sharif and Sadiq-Ul-Amin.

Bhaskar Rao said that on December 22 in front of Town Hall, where the BJP had organised a programme to enlighten the people about CAA, these men assembled there early in the morning and had planned to attack the speakers which included, among others, BJP Lok Sabha MP Tejaswi Surya, RSS leader Sulebele and others.

Mr Rao said that after receiving a complaint from MP Surya, a special police team was formed which managed to uncover the plans of these people to create trouble.

The culprits pelted stones upon the people gathered there to create panic and in the ensuing confusion they had planned to attack the leaders. But when their plan failed, the culprits allegedly followed BJP worker Sulibele on a two wheeler and attacked him.

The arrested have been taken into police custody after producing them before a magistrate.

Kalasipalya Police have registered a case and investigating are going on.
