Karnataka results would have been 'different' had Congress allied with JD(S): Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata, May 15 (IBNS): As the  Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) heads for a  clean sweep in the Karnataka election, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, who is also a strong proponent of a united opposition, has said the poll results in the southern state would have been "different" had the Congress stitched an alliance with H.D. Deve Gowda's Janata Dal (Secular).

Congratulating the BJP for the poll victory and sharing solidarity with the Congress, Banerjee tweeted, "Congratulations to the winners of the Karnataka elections. For those who lost, fight back. If Congress had gone into an alliance with the JD(S), the result would have been different. Very different"

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to uproot the five-year old Congress government to establish a stronghold in the southern India, as the Karnataka assembly poll results are being declared on Tuesday.

According to latest trends, the BJP is leading in 112 seats as against Congress' 68.

Janata Dal (Secular) is leading in 39 seats.

The majority mark in the 224-seat Assembly is 113.

Results of 222 seats will be declared on Tuesday.

Polling was not held in two seats on Saturday when people voted in the southern state to elect a new Assembly.
