Raichur, Apr 25 (UNI): Police resorted to lathi charge to disperse a student mob which was protesting against alleged rape and burn of a Engineering Student on April 16.

Thousands of students belong to various organisation including SFI , ABVP, DYFI, among others, took a protest march from Manikprobhu temple to Deputy Commissioner's office and demanded severe punishment to the accused.

Police sources said that the strong 3 to 4 thousands students took protest march peacefully in early and pass Teenkhandal circle but turned violent and indulged in pelting stones, throwing footwears and water bottle against the police persons. The mob tried to enter DC office forcefully without permission. The police first warned the mob and then resorted to disperse the agitators.

The victim Madhu, a student of Navodaya Institute of Technology, Raichur was missing since April 13 and her body was found in hanging position three days later. A gruesome image of her burnt body, with her right arm chopped, is being shared massively in social media.

Reports also suggest that Madhu was forced to write a suicide note herself before she was murdered. In the death note Madhu had stated that she is committing suicide since she failed to clear her examination. However, her classmates had stated that she had passed in all the subjects and no arrears.

Police have arrested Sudarshan Yadav in the connection and awaiting postmortem report.

Considering the severity of the crime, the Karnataka government ordered CID probe into the incident and CID police on Wednesday obtained custody of Sudarshan Yadav.

Film actors Bhuvana and Harshika Poonacha also participated in the protest march. They met the Madhu Pattar's parents and consoled them.

The parents alleged that their daughter was raped and murdered by miscreants and sought justice from the state government.
