Karnataka HC allows Ganesh festival in Eidgah Maidan snubbing Muslim body's plea

Bengaluru/IBNS: The Karnataka High Court has allowed Ganesh Chaturthi at Eidgah Maidan here rejecting a fresh petition filed against the holding of the two-day Hindu festival, media reports said.

The court in its midnight hearing said the "serious dispute" over the land ownership does not exist in the Hubbali case.

"This (the Hubballi grounds) is corporation property and the corporation can do whatever it considers appropriate… They have two days to pray, Ramzan and Bakri Id, that of course cannot be interfered with," the court said as quoted by NDTV.

The Supreme Court ordered a status quo on the case Tuesday based on a petition against the festival by the Karnataka Waqf board.

After the High Court had earlier allowed the government to give permission for Ganesh Chaturthi, the Waqf board went to the Supreme Court, arguing no other religious festivals have been held there "for 200 years".
