Karnataka: Girl found dead, family suspects black magic

Kalaburagi/UNI: A five-year-old girl missing since December 5 from her house in Havanour village, was found murdered on Friday.

The girl's body found with throat slit near Havanour village of Afzalpur taluk of the district and the victim's family believes it to be a case of witchcraft, police said on Friday .

According to the police, deceased Swetha (5), who was playing with her younger brother in front of Havanour village farm house went missing on December 5.

The family registered a police complaint in this regard. About one week after today, Swetha's body found with throat slit with some sharp-edged weapon and cut into multiple pieces on the bank of river Bhima near Deval Ganagapur village, police said.

"The family members are suspecting that black magic could be the reason of this murder. Her body has been sent for postmortem examination to ascertain whether she was also sexually assaulted," police added.

Rachaiah, the girl’s grandfather, said that she may have been killed in a witchcraft performed as part of a "treasure hunt."

The Deval Gaganapur police registered the case and investigation is on, the source said.
