Bengaluru/UNI/IBNS:  The ruling Bhartiya Janta Party has taken an early lead on ten seats as counting for the bypolls held last week in Karnataka is currently going on on Monday.

Amid tight security, counting began at 8 am.

According to election commission trends on all 15 constituencies, BJP is leading on 10 seats while the Congress and JDS both on two seats.

Sharath Kumar Bachegowda from Hosakote contituency is the only independent candidate who is leading in the bypolls trends.

Stakes are high in these elections as it will decide the political fortune of 15 disqualified MLAs of Karnataka Legislative Assembly as Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has promised the winning MLAs berth in his Cabinet, however, subject to approval by party High Command.

Among the 15 candidates in the fray -- 12 from ruling BJP, who were given tickets after they contributed to the fall of Congress-JDS coalition government in July last and paved way for the formation of Yediyurappa government in the state.
