Karnataka Assembly polls: BJP takes strong lead, Congress lagging behind

Bangalore, May 15 (IBNS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken major lead against ruling Congress as counting of votes for the crucial Karnataka Assembly polls is currently going on on Tuesday.

After a close fight in the morning, as per current trends at 10 am, BJP is leading in 107 seats.

The Congress is currently ahead in 73 seats.

JDS is leading in 40 seats while others are ahead in 2 seats.

So far, results and trends of 221 seats have come to light.

Results of 222 seats will be declared on Tuesday.

Polling was not held in two seats on Saturday when people voted in the southern state to elect a new Assembly.

Congress leader and state CM Siddaramaiah is leading in the Badami seat.

Howver, he is trailing in Chamundeshwari seat.

He contested the polls from two seats.

BJP's key leader in the state BS Yeddyurappa is leading in Shikaripura seat.

Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in 2019, result of the southern state is holding a significance of its own.

Both the Congress and the BJP have campaigned hard in the state before the polls on Saturday.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi themselves arrived in Karnataka to campaign for their respective parties.
