Kamal Hassan meets Sonia Gandhi

New Delhi, Jun 21 (IBNS) : Fuelling political speculations, actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan on Thursday met UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi at her Delhi residence a day after visiting Congress President Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

“I met Sonia Gandhi and discussed the state of Tamil Nadu politics. However, I did not discuss the possibility of an alliance with the party,” Haasan, President of Makkal Needhi Maiam, was quoted by Thathi TV as saying.

He said it was just a courtesy call.

His consecutive meetings with Congress high-ups has fuelled speculations of a possible alliance.

Emerging out of the meeting, Hassan, however, clarified, "More than them being leaders, they are one family. I met the son yesterday... and met the mother today."

He said it was "still too early" to speak of any tie-up between his party and the Congress and this topic hadn't come up in his conversation with the Congress leaders.

On Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi shared a photograph of the two leaders shaking hands on Twitter and wrote that he enjoyed meeting Hassan.

Gandhi said he discussed a wide range of issues, including the political situation in Tamil Nadu.
