JU: Students vote against VC

Kolkata, Oct 31 (IBNS): The result of the referendum in Jadavpur University was declared on Friday with large number of students voting against Vice-Chancellor Abhijit Chakraborty.

The referendum of the arts faculty of Jadavpur University was held on Thursday and Friday.

More than 87% students of arts faculty participated in it while the result was counted on Friday evening under the observation of human right activist Sujata Bhadra.

The results showed 96.9% voters voted against the VC and rest 3.1% voted for Chakraborty.

The students said that this result had boosted their movement.

On Nov 11 and 12, the referendum of Science and Engineering faculty will be held in the university.

Triggering criticisms, Chakraborty on Sept 16 had called the police to remove protesting students of the university from the main administrative building in the campus. The police had cracked down on agitating protesters and arrested 37 students that night.
