Journalist B.G. Verghese passes away

New Delhi, Dec 30 (IBNS): Noted journalist B.G. Verghese died in Gurgaon on Tuesday.

He was 87.

He had served as editors of leading INdian newspapers The Hindustan Times and The Indian Express.

In 1975, he received the Ramon Magsaysay award for outstanding contribution to journalism.

Mourning his death, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley tweeted: "Condolences on the demise of B G Verghese. An outstanding journalist and an outstanding man."

Senior Journalist Shekhar Gupta said: "RIP B.G.Verghese. So nice, warm, correct he inspired a grt Goenka-ism: yeh hai St. George Verghese, aur mera Express hai, Shivji ki baraat!!"

Journalist Barkha Dutt tweeted: "Terrible to hear that B.G Verghese has died. He was my mother's editor before I got to know him. Articulate, passionate, decent,till the end."
