JNU students hold protest march against fee-hike in New Delhi
New Delhi/IBNS: The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students have started their protest march which is heading towards the parliament here against the hostel fee-hike, media reports said.
Though Section 144 is imposed around the JNU campus, the protesters reportedly broke the barricades and went ahead with their march.
The Jawaharlal Nehru Students' Union (JNSU) members said they will carry out the march to appeal to MPs over the fee-hike.
The students have been protesting for several days now with their demand to roll back the service charges of Rs. 1,700 and the hike of one-time refundable mess security fee from Rs. 5,500 to Rs. 12,000.
Though the JNU administration has partially rolled back the fee hike for Below Poverty Line (BPL) students who do not avail scholarship, the students, who dubbed the move as an "eye-wash", are not satisfied.
Meanwhile, a huge row broke out after several objectionable messages against the right-wing groups were found written on the pedestal of Swami Vivekananda's statue which is yet to be unveiled.
