JMB trained terrorist arrested in Assam’s Barpeta district

Guwahati (IBNS): While the security agencies have claimed to curb the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) activities in Assam, the terror activities of the terrorist group are still going on in the North-Eastern state.

Assam Police on Tuesday got a major success after arresting a JMB trained terrorist from Barpeta district of Lower Assam part.

Police arrested the JMB terrorist identified as 25-year-old Azhar Ali alias Azharuddin Ahmed alias Azharuddin Ali from Barpeta area.

Barpeta district Superintendent of Police Robin Kumar said that: “We were tracking him for so long but most of the times he was outside Assam. We got intelligence input that he is coming to Barpeta and an operation was conducted and he was arrested.”

The JMB trained terrorist hailing from Rowmari Pathar village under Tarabari police station in Barpeta district was wanted in SOU case.

On Wednesday, the arrested JMB terrorist was produced before a local court and the court has sent him 7 days police remand.

It is to be mentioned that, following the Burdwan blast in 2014, security agencies had arrested 15 JMB terrorists from different locations of Assam.

The security agencies had also busted several JMB camps and modules in the state.

Recently, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) disclosed that JMB has increased its activities in Bihar, Maharashtra, Kerala and Karnataka.
