| @indiablooms | Jul 22, 2023, at 10:30 am

The government has approved the much-awaited repair and renovation of the century-old houseboats adorning the picturesque Dal Lake in the Kashmir Valley. The initiative brings hope to the struggling houseboat community and aims to revitalize the local tourism industry.

The restoration efforts will encompass comprehensive facelifts, addressing structural concerns, decayed woodwork, and dilapidated interiors, while preserving the authentic charm and intricate craftsmanship of the floating abodes. Skilled artisans will be engaged to ensure precision in the restoration work, reported ANI.

The positive impact of this decision is expected to be far-reaching, enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of Dal Lake, boosting tourism, and providing economic opportunities for the local community.

The move aligns with the government's commitment to sustainable tourism practices, incorporating eco-friendly measures for long-term preservation.

Houseboat dwellers expressed their gratitude for the pivotal development, with the Kashmir Houseboat Owners Association (KHBOA) President welcoming the step and hoping for similar permissions for other houseboats in need of repair.

The houseboat owners are thrilled that their livelihoods and cultural heritage will be preserved, and visitors can once again experience the unique charm of staying in these floating wonders, contributing to the revival of tourism in the valley.
