Jantar Mantar rally: BJP leader Ashwini Upadhyay arrested over 'anti-Muslim slogans' gets bail

New Delhi/IBNS: Former Supreme Court lawyer and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ashwini Upadhyay, who was arrested over "anti-Muslim slogans" allegedly raised at a Delhi rally, was granted bail Wednesday.

A Delhi court asked him to deposit Rs. 50,000.

Upadhyay along with five others were arrested over the slogans against the Muslim community allegedly raised at a rally in Delhi's Jantar Mantar Sunday.

The march, which was called by Upadhyay, was against "colonial era rules".

In a clip which went viral on social media, "Ram, Ram" chants were heard along with threats to kill Muslims.

"Hindustan mein rehna hoga jai shri ram kehna hoga (To stay in India, must say Jai Shri Ram)," the group purportedly said.

Upadhyay has, however, said he had no idea that such slogans were raised.

Reacting to the bail, political activist Yogendra Yadav tweeted, "While Umar Khalid has been denied bail for over 300 days in a case in which the trial has not even begun and all that the police has offered in defence is 'conspiracy theories'!"
