Srinagar: Thousands of devotees on Friday assembled at the Asar-e-Sharief Hazratbal for congregational prayers following Eid-e-Milad-Un-Nabi, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad which is being celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety across the Kashmir Valley.

A large number including men, women and children walked from all across the Valley to attend the congregational prayers at Hazratbal, which houses the holy relic of the Prophet Muhammad on the banks of Dal Lake.

A good number of devotees also participated in night-long prayers Shab Khawani on Thursday.

The Friday prayers were led by a priest from the Cherry Bagh Mihrab or Niche of the Hazratbal shrine complex.

Soon after the prayers, another priest displayed the “Moie-e-Muqadas” or The Holy relic of the Prophet Muhammad before the devotees. The devotees would have the glimpse of the holy relic after every prayer for the day to culminate the annual Urs of Eid-e-Milad-Un-Nabi at the shrine.

A large number of people also offered prayers at Jenab Sahib Soura and Kalashpora in downtown Srinagar where Moie-e-Muqadas of the Prophet was displayed after the Friday prayers.
