Srinagar, Nov 5 (UNI) Over 20 shops have been reduced to ashes in a devastating mysterious fire at Batmaloo area in this summer capital, official sources said.

They said fire broke out in a shop at Batmaloo, half a km from the Fire and Emergency Service Department (F&ED) on Monday night and spread to the entire shopping complex. It took several hours to douse the flames.

The cause of the fire was being ascertained, they further said, adding that Police has registered a case and started investigation.

Shops and business establishments remained closed in Kashmir valley since August 5, when the Centre scrapped Articles 370 and 35 A, besides dividing the state into two Union Territories.

However, for the about a month, majority of shops and business establishments were functioning for a few hours in the morning in the valley, including this summer capital. In some areas, shops were functioning in the evening hours also.
