Bandipora, Sept 22 (IBNS): An encounter is underway between suspected militants and security forces in Aragam village of Bandipora in north Kashmir, officials said on Thursday.

Senior army officer told that the fierce gunfight erupted in Aragam village of Bandipora in northern Kashmir after forces cordoned off a house located in the forests in Aragam village.

He said few militants are suspected to be hiding in the house.

“The firing is going on between the two sides,” he said.

This encounter took place after 75 days since July 8 when top Hizb leader Burhan Wani was killed in South Kashmir.

Kashmir witness mass uprising after Burhan death, 78 people died in security forces firing while 10,000 civilians injured during protests.

Kashmir's Uri town was hit by a major terrorist attack on Sunday which left 18 Indian soldiers martyred.

Four terrorists, believed to have crossed the border from Pakistan, sneaked into the Army camp located near the LoC in Uri and launched the attack on Sunday.

The incident took place when most of the soldiers were asleep.
