Srinagar: Security forces shot dead two local Lashkar-e-Taiba militants in an overnight encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district, police said.

The encounter broke out late Sunday at Tangpawa area during a cordon and a search operation following an input about militant presence. "In the operation two terrorists were killed," a senior police officer said.

Additional Director General of Police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said the two were locals and affiliated with LeT.

“They were involved in several terror crime cases,” he said.

In October so far seven local militants have been killed in various gunfights.
