Jagdeep Dhankar takes oath as the Bengal Governor

Kolkata, Jul 30 (UNI) Supreme Court former lawyer and ex-MP Jagdeep Dhankar was today sworn-in as the Governor of West Bengal in presence of state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, her cabinet colleagues, army and civil officials at a simple function at Raj Bhawan here.

Opposition Congress leader Abdul Mannan was also present.

The oath of the office and secrecy was administered by Calcutta High court chief justice DBN Radhakrishnan.

Sixty-eight-year-old Jagdeep Dhankar, who was member of Lok Sabha between 1989-1991 represented Jhunjhunu seat from Rajastan, replaced Keshari Nath Tripathi, who has completed his five-year tenure as the governor of West Bengal on July 23.

After the swearing in ceremony ended, Banerjee introduced her minsters with the governor.

The Union government has appointed Dhankhar on July 20 to hold the gubernatorial post of West Bengal.
