New Delhi, Mar 2 (IBNS) As the Ishrat Jehan encounter case thickens, pushing Congress on the back foot, party supremo Sonia Gandhi stated on Wednesday that BJP is targeting them and has been doing so for a long time.

Sonia was quoted in the media as saying, "We have been targeted ever since we were in the government."

Sonia also came to former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram rescue, who is under fire for stating that Ishrat Jehan encounter was a mock encounter.

She said, "Chidambarm has already explained his stand."

Meanwhile the BJP lawmakers have submitted notices in both the houses pertaining to the Ishrat Jehan case.

BJP Minister M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters that there are enough proof about Ishrat being a terrorist.

He also said that it was a plan to malign Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the opposition has succeeded to an extent.
