Srinagar, June 7 (IBNS) : Authorities suspended mobile Internet services in the Kashmir Valley on Wednesday morning after a youth was killed in firing by security forces in south Kashmir's Shopian district on Tuesday.

According to reports, mobile Internet services were snapped after telecom operators received orders from the authorities.  However 2G and BSNL broadband are functioning normally.

On Tuesday evening, security forces surrounded a house n the Ganowpora village following specific  intelligence inputs  about two militants hiding there.

As soon as the villagers heard the  gunshots, they came out pelting stones at the security personnel to breach the cordon.

The police said tear gas was used to disperse the protesters resulting in the death of 20-year-old Adil Farooq.

All schools and colleges were shut down as a preventive measure against any protest by students.

Heavy deployment of police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been made in the city and in the  district headquarters to maintain law and order.
