International Mother Language Day: Multi-Lingual Mushaira organised at University of Jammu

Srinagar: The Department of Urdu at Jammu University organized an event on the occasion of International Mother Language Day.

On this occasion, a multilingual discussion was also organized in which students and scholars presented speeches in their respective mother tongues and received praise from the participants.

The president of Urdu-Jummun University, Prof. Muhammad Riyaz Ahmed, presided over this meeting. 

In his presidential address, Professor Mohammad Riaz Ahmed shed light on the role of mother tongues in the evolutionary journey of education and culture.

He said that the mother tongue is related to the language that a person learns from his mother and home and that is why it is called the mother tongue.

Every year, February 21 is celebrated as International Mother Language Day. A sense of responsibility towards mother tongues should be felt and on this day, citizens take an oath to pave the way for the development of mother tongues.

Professor Mohammad Riaz Ahmad said that everyone should play a role in the development of their mother tongue. Languages are a means of expression, but the mother tongue is the language in which a person thinks.

Compared to other languages, a person has the ability to imagine better and faster in the mother tongue. 

In Mushayare, Sana Fardu S (Semstrawal.Urdu Ghazal), Zahid Mughal Semestral (Gujri Ghazal), Rahm Ali (Punjabi Ghazal), Iram Nawaz (Pahari Ghazal), Asif Attaullah (Urdu Ghazal), Jafar Tabish (Gujri Ghazal), Sambika Sharma (Dogri Ghazal), Ishtiaq Ahmed (  Kashmiri Ghazal), Majder Sheedi (Sarazi), Sherbaz (Pahari), Mohsin Naik (Bhadrwahi), Gulzar Ahmed Sohal (Pogli/Kah), Rehana Akhtar (Hindi), Chaudhry Tayyab Raza Jilani (Gujari Ghazal), Yathar B Chaudhry (Gujari Ghazal),  Basit Chaudhary (Gujari Ghazal) and others presented poetry and songs in the respective native languages.

On this occasion, Sheikh Ahmad Ajaz performed the organizing duties. During this time, Dr. Abdul Rasheed Minhas, Dr. Farhat Shamim, Dr. Chaman Lal, Dr. Abdul Qayyum, Dr. Raza Mahmood, Dr. Javed Ahmad Shah, Dr. Mohammad Ijaz, Tariq Abrar and a large number of students were present.
