Indians under attack abroad: US tops 2025 list with 14 cases, says MEA
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has said that 14 Indians were attacked in the US in 2025, the highest number recorded in any country during the year.
In 2024, 11 attacks against Indians were reported in the US, according to data provided by the MEA.
Apart from the US, the MEA reported 12 attacks in the UAE and 11 in Mali in 2025. During the same year, 10 attacks were reported against Indians in Ireland.
The data showed a steady rise in attacks in Ireland over the years. While one incident each was reported in 2021 and 2022, the number rose to seven in 2024 before reaching 10 in 2025.
Responding to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh said Indian nationals in distress abroad are provided assistance through the Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF), established at all Indian Missions and Posts overseas, to meet contingency expenses on a means-tested basis.
“Indian nationals who are in distress in foreign countries are provided assistance under Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF) set up in all Indian Missions/Posts abroad to meet any contingency expenditure incurred by them, on a means-tested basis,” he said.
Singh said Pravasi Bharatiya Sahayata Kendras (PBSKs) have also been established in Dubai, Sharjah, Riyadh, Jeddah and Kuala Lumpur to provide assistance to distressed Indian nationals abroad.
“Advisories are issued for Indian nationals from time to time, asking them to exercise due caution and remain vigilant,” he added.
The minister said the government remains vigilant about developments affecting the lives of Indian nationals abroad and takes all necessary measures to safeguard their interests, safety and welfare.
