Indians inheritors of glorious maritime heritage: PM Modi at Maritime Summit

Mumbai, Apr 14 (IBNS) Speaking at the Maritime Summit in Mumbai on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India enjoys a glorious maritime heritage.

Modi also paid tributes to BR Ambedkar and hailed him as the architect of the water and river navigation policy in India.

"There is a reason why this important Summit has been organised today, on the fourteenth of April 2016," Modi said, while adding, "Dr. Ambedkar is also the architect of the water and river navigation policy in India."

"Many of us may not know that Babasaheb created two powerful institutions related to water, navigation and power. They were: The Central Waterways, Irrigation and Navigation Commission and The Central Technical Power Board" PM Modi said.

"Dr Ambedkar emphasised importance of new waterways policy to lay the foundation for a regime of prosperity for millions of poor of India," Modi said while highlight Ambedkar's body of work.

The Prime Minister said that India is the fastest growing economy in the world, with a GDP growth rate of more than seven percent and said that it is the aim of his government to restore India's pride in the global maritime sector.

"With a GDP growth rate of more than seven percent, India is the fastest growing major economy today. It is my Government’s endeavour to revive and restore India’s position of eminence in the global maritime sector," PM Modi said.
