Indian student shot dead in US's Kansas City restaurant

Kansas City, July 8 (IBNS): A 26-year-old student from Telangana was shot dead in a restaurant at the Kansas City of US's Missouri state during a suspected robbery attempt, media reports said on Sunday.

According to reports, unidentified persons shot the Indian student, who was later identified as Sharath Koppu, at J’s Fish and Chicken Market on Prospect Avenue on Friday.

Koppu was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators are of the view that the Indian student was shot during a suspected attempt of robbery.

The Kansas City Police has released a video of the suspect as well on their Twitter page.

They have also announced a reward for any information about the suspect.

Confirming the death, the Indian Consulate in Chicago tweeted:

The consulate also extended condolences for the victim's family.

Koppu, who hailed from Warangal district of Telangana, was pursuing his masters in software engineering at the University of Missouri.

He was also working part-time at the restaurant in Kansas City, said reports.
