Indian soldier dies in counter infiltration operation in Kashmir

| | Jul 23, 2015, at 05:39 pm
Srinagar, July 23 (IBNS) In a fresh counter infiltration operation by the Indian Army against heavily armed militants of Pakistan in North Kashmir, a soldier died, said officials on Thursday.

The Indian army spotted the militants inside Indian territory near the Line of Control (LoC) in Tanghdar sector of North Kashmir and launched an operation.

“We lost one army jawan so far in the encounter near Eagle post in Tanghdar sector on Wednesday afternoon and operation is still on in the area,” an army official told IBNS.

Officials said that “dense forests and heavy rains in the area from last night halted insurgency operation against the militants."

"We hope that rain will stop soon and operation will restart again," said the official.

The latest encounter comes days after three incidents of ceasefire violation and heavy firing by Pakistan's forces in Poonch, Keran and Kasba regions.

Infiltration attempts by terrorists increase during monsoons in Kashmir as they take advantage of fog that covers the entire area making it easier for them to sneak into the Indian territory.
