Indian Railways moving towards complete electrification in next 4-5 years: Piyush Goyal

New Delhi/IBNS: The government hopes to electrify the entire railway network in the next four to five years in the bid to reduce carbon emmission, Railway minister Piyush Goyal said on Thursday.

"India is rapidly moving towards complete electrification and in the the next four to five years, we expect to complete the elctrification of the entire rail network," Goyal said, speaking at the 8th World Energy Policy Summit.

With over 1,25 000 track-length km, Indian Railways will be the largest electrified railway network in the world, he said.

Currently, arround 55 per cent of the railway network is using electricity, he said.
