Indian President condemns Bangladesh terror attack

New Delhi, July 2 (IBNS): President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday condemned the terror attack which hit Bangladesh and left several people dead.

Militants attacked a cafe in Bangladesh capital Dhaka on Friday and kept hostages.

Following a long battle with militants, security forces brought situation under control on Saturday morning even as 20 foreigners were killed by heavily armed terrorists suspected to belong to terror outfit ISIS.

The official Twitter page of the President of India posted: "#PresidentMukherjee strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Dhaka yesterday."

"I am deeply saddened at the loss of life and injuries caused to innocent civilians in this dastardly attack #PresidentMukherjee," read a tweeted quoting the President.

"India condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations #PresidentMukherjee," read another tweet.

"India believes that there can be no justification for such senseless acts of violence #PresidentMukherjee," read another tweet.

"The people of India stand by the people of Bangladesh at this difficult hour and share their grief #PresidentMukherjee," the official Twitter page posted quoting Mukherjee.

The Bangladeshi Army on Saturday said that 20 foreigners were killed by heavily armed terrorists suspected to belong to terror outfit ISIS after being taken hostage at a restaurant in the capital city Dhaka on Friday evening.
The people were kept hostage for nearly 10 hours in Dhaka's upscale restaurant Gulshan. The stand-off between Army and terrorists came to a end on Saturday morning.

An Indian girl, who was taken hostage in the restaurant, also died in the terror attack in Dhaka, Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj confirmed.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday said that a terrorist was caught alive.

As the operation came to an end, 13 captives, including three foreigners, were rescued.
