New Delhi: India successfully conducted a test firing of the nuclear-capable K-4 submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) with a range of 3,500 kilometers from the Indian Navy's recently inducted nuclear submarine, INS Arighaat, on Wednesday.

News agency ANI reported the development on Thursday, citing unnamed defence sources.

In a social media post, ANI stated, "The Indian Navy on Wednesday carried out the test firing of the 3,500-km K-4 ballistic missile from the newly inducted nuclear submarine INS Arighaat. The test results are being analysed. The boat is operated by the Strategic Forces Command."

This signifies a major step in bolstering India's nuclear deterrence capabilities.

INS Arighaat, the navy's second nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, was commissioned in August during a ceremony in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
