India and Sri Lanka would support nine joint research projects to be taken up by scientists of the two countries, news website ColomboPage reported.

The Indian Ministry of Science and Technology announced on Wednesday that Food Technology, Plant Base Medicines, Metrology, Space Research and Applications, Robotics and Automation as also Industrial Electronics would be among the research areas.

Other research domains were Renewable Energy, Waste Management, Information and Communication Technology.

India’s Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the State Ministry of Skills Development, Vocational Education, Research & Innovation of Sri Lanka had launched a joint call for proposals for research in August, 2019, the report said.

The Indian ministry said it received 193 common proposals in response to the call.

The call for proposals was part of the two nation’s inter-governmental cooperation in science and technology agreed in 2008.
