New Delhi: India and China have started withdrawing troops from Gogra-Hot Springs in Ladakh following a consensus reached in the 16th round of military talks, the two countries said in a joint statement this evening.

"On 08 September 2022, according to the consensus reached in the 16th round of India China Corps Commander Level Meeting, the Indian and Chinese troops in the area of Gogra-Hot Springs (PP-15) have begun to disengage in a coordinated and planned way, which is conducive to the peace and tranquility in the border areas," read the statement.

The Chinese troops will go back to pre-2020 positions, NDTV reported citing sources.

Indian and Chinese troops have managed to withdraw from Galwan region in eastern Ladakh where both sides engaged in a fierce clash in June 2020, in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed and over 40 Chinese soldiers were either killed or injured.

Further, there have been breakthroughs on both banks of Pangong Lake further south in Ladakh.

Several media reports have said Chinese soldiers continue to hold large areas of Indian territory to the north in the Depsang plains.
