India cancels talks with Pakistan, says PM Imran Khan's true face revealed

| @indiablooms | Sep 21, 2018, at 06:44 pm

New Delhi, Sept 21 (IBNS): Hours after three Jammu and Kashmir cops were killed by terrorists, India on Friday called off the talks between foreign ministers of India and Pakistan.

The meeting was supposed to take place at the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Speaking during a press conference, MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said: "The true face of Imran Khan has been revealed to the world in his first few months in office."

The meeting between Foreign minister Sushma Swaraj and her Pakistan counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi would have taken place next week in the US city.

Kumar said: "In view of the changed situation, there would be no meeting between the Foreign Ministers of India and Pakistan."

Three cops killed in Kashmir:

The latest announcement came just hours after three Special Police Officers (SPOs) were killed by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian area on Friday morning, media reports said.

The terrorists had kidnapped four cops in total. Out of four, one was rescued by the villagers, a Home Ministry official told NDTV.

The three policemen were identified as  Nisar Ahmad, Firdous Kuchay & Kulwant Singh.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police condemned the attack and Kashmir Zone Police tweeted: "We have lost 3 of our brave colleagues in a barbaric terror strike. Our tribute to the 3 martyred Jawans Nisar Ahmad, Firdous Kuchay & Kulwant Singh. We condemn this inhuman act and assure that all the culprits shall be dealt under law. @JmuKmrPolice."

MEA's earlier stand on the meeting:

The MEA earlier stated that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will hold a meeting with Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on the sidelines of the UNGA.

Raveesh Kumar had reportedly indicated that the proposed meeting is taking place upon Pakistan's request.

Imran Khan has written a letter to Modi seeking resumption of dialogue between India and Pakistan, moving on with his first overture for bilateral peacemaking after assuming office, media reports said on Thursday.

Khan's letter is believed to have been written in response to Modi's letter congratulating him for assuming office. According to the Times of India, Modi in his letter written on Aug 20 had called for a “meaningful and constructive” engagement between the two countries.
