India and Nepal sign bilateral agreements for roads and reconstruction projects

New Delhi, Sep 16 (IBNS): India and Nepal signed three agreements in the presence of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nepal's Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', on Friday, media reported.

The agreements were regarding roads and reconstruction projects, according to media reports.

An MoU was signed for project management consultancy services for upgradation/improvement of road infrastructure in Terai region of Nepal.

The other agreements included First Amendatory Dollar Credit line and New Dollar Credit line for post-earthquake reconstruction.

The Nepalese PM, who arrived in New Delhi on Thursday on a four-day visit to India, called on PM Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House on Friday prior to the delegate level meeting, which was followed by the signing of the agreements.

Welcoming the Nepalese PM, Modi said the meeting indicated a significant day for India-Nepal friendship.

The PMs also held a joint media briefing.

According to tweets from the Ministry of External Affairs, Modi said, "Our friendship is time-tested & unique.We share our burden during difficult times,just as we celebrate each other’s achievements."

"As immediate neighbours & close friendly nations,peace, stability, &eco prosperity of Nepal is our shared objective," said the Indian PM tweeted MEA.

The Indian PM also highlighted the key pillars of partnership and India's initiatives that would benefit Nepal and strengthen the ties between the two countries.

It was decided to push for speedy  and successful implementation of ongoing hydropower projects and develop and operationalise transmission lines.

The MEA tweet quoted the Indian PM as saying, "Our security interests are inter-linked.We agreed that securing our societies is essential for achieving shared objectives of dev &growth."

Modi also said, "We have agreed to show case our shared Buddhist heritage & focus on the development of Ayurveda and other traditional systems of medicine."

The MEA tweeted that PM concluded by saying, "Confident that our discussion today wud further cement our centuries old relations.And,write a new & glorious chapter of our p'ship."
