"Saddened to learn of the tragic train accident in Amritsar India. Condolences go to the families of the deceased," Khan, who was elected as the PM of the country this year, tweeted.

At least 60 people were killed when a train ran over people who were standing on the railway track to watch the burning of Ravana effigy on Friday.

Ravana effigies were burned across the country, including in Amritsar city, as a part of the Dusshera festival.

The Punjab government ordered a state mourning on Saturday.
