Illegal taxation back after a brief gap says Business Association of Nagas

Kohima/UNI: The Business Association of Nagas (BAN) has stated that after a brief lull of search for illegal collection and taxation by the Public Action Committee (PAC), the illegal collection by various organisations have started at the check gates leading to rise in prices of certain commodities.

A statement issued by the BAN media cell said: "With the festive season around the corner, the business community was hopeful of a ‘tax-free’ Christmas. However, some “unscrupulous elements” have other ideas."

BAN said the business community will have to pass on the tax burden to the citizens, ultimately leading to rise in price of commodities.

The business body expressed anguish that despite enormous time and effort put in by tribal bodies and organizations under the aegis of the Public Action Committee (PAC) of Naga Council Dimapur (NCD), the fight against illegal taxation and collection has become futile as the same activity has started at the check gates leading to rise in prices of certain commodities.

NCD being the apex tribal body in Dimapur and having started a noble initiative like the PAC, BAN said the business community and citizens were hopeful that this initiative will continue to curb the menace of illegal taxation.
