Hyderabad: In a disturbing incident, a deaf and dumb woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by a young man at Vijaynagar Colony, Humayunnagar, in the city on Friday night.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Sai, unlawfully entered the victim's residence when no one was present.

He forcefully confined her in the washroom, where he committed the heinous act of sexual assault.

Due to her disability, the woman was unable to call for help or signal anyone about the ongoing assault.

Following the crime, the accused, Sai, locked himself in the washroom and managed to escape, leaving the traumatised victim behind.

The family members of the victim were away visiting relatives who were hospitalised during the incident.

Upon their return, the woman's husband inquired about the incident and subsequently filed a complaint at the local police station.

The police promptly registered a case and initiated a thorough investigation.
Further investigation is underway, the police added.
