Hundreds of Muslim women offer Eid prayers at Lucknow eidgah
Lucknow, Jul 7 (IBNS) : Hundreds of Muslim women offered Eid prayers for the first time in life at the three century old Aishbagh Eidgah on Thursday, reports said.
This is for the first time that so many women from the community offered prayers at a mosque. According to reports, this was made possible by a cleric, Maulana Khalid Firngi Mahali, who made arrangements for providing a larger space for a greater number of women to offer prayers.
Welcoming the development, Bhumata Brigade activist Trupti Desai said it was a very big change and a big historical beginning.
"For the first time women were allowed to enter the mosques in Lucknow. The women are offering prayers there. It's a matter of great happiness. We had started the movement so that the Muslim women get this right. We want equality in temples, mosques and Dargah. This is a very big change. It will be a very big historical beginning," media reports quoted Desai as saying.
